Description
This is a pair of antique French-made binoculars; black enamel on brass. We believe these are military binoculars/field glasses; they are the same design as those we've seen that were used during the Civil War, but we don't know the exact age of these (probably c1860-c1890 - Lemaire was founded in 1846). Marked "Lemaire Fabt Paris" on each eyepiece, along with the Lemaire bee insignia. There is a 1 1/2" sunshade at the end of each lens. 7 1/2" long with optics fully extended; 9" with sunshades deployed. 5" across.
Condition
Very good condition with some surface wear, but most of the black enamel still is intact. Much less oxidation to the brass than usually seen on these. No damage to the glass - nothing more than very small scratches. Still functional and view still is good.
