Item Details
Description
Original screen used movie prop ship used the the 1925 classic black and white silent film Ben Hur. This is one of the original ships used in the classic sea battle scene between the Romans and Macedonians. No expense was spared building these props for Fred Niblo. The Battle Scene was filmed in a small pool. The boat was re purposed for the 1959 remake of the Ben Hur Movie starring Charleston Heston. The ship is made of copper and aluminum. Its very highly detailed. The front of the vessel has a figural Rams Head. Both ends of the boat have nice details. A lattic rail runs along both sides of the hull. The boat has been outfitted with sails, oars, anchors, and people. The boat shows wonderful patina. This is a true piece of Movie History. Ben Hur is a timeless classic movie. Most of these ship were totally destroyed during the battle scenes and left as partial hulls. This is one of the few that survived intact with all the highlights and details still on it. This ship comes with a letter of authenticity. A true Museum Quality piece of history.
