CHINESE JADE GREENERY SCHOLARS / MEDITATION / VIEWING STONE: Liaoning Province, China. Stone with naturally occurring jadeite, moss agate, serpentine and other natural minerals. Including an ebonized stand carved with pine and prunus blossoms, Stone: 22.75"h x 20"w x 1.5"d, Wood stand: 5"h.
Greenery stones are named because of the naturally occurring patterns which suggest landscapes full of trees, grasses and other natural forms. Beginning as early as the Yuan (1279 - 1368) Dynasty Chinese scholars and artists displayed these on their desk's as objects of contemplation which were appreciated for their natural beauty.
