Description
1840 Cinderella Charles Perrault Fairy Tales Hop-o-My-Thumb French Illustrated
“A dream is a wish your heart makes.”
― Charles Perrault, Cinderella
Charles Perrault was a 17th-century French author who is most-remembered for his fairy tales. When “Les Contes” was first written it was quite ahead of its time and his writing helped lay the groundwork for a new literary genre that would become very popular throughout Europe of the next century. Many of his fairy tales include stories that are still popular today such as Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Puss in Boots, and Sleeping Beauty.
This rare mid-19th-century printing of ‘Cinderella’ is filled with over 30 charming hand-colored illustrations and is paired with another Perrault fairytale, ‘Hop-o’My-Thumb’ (‘Le Petit Poucet) – a tale that should not be confused with Tom Thumb. No other editions were published by Riga following this edition; a very rare first edition.
