Description
18th-19th century AD. A gold cruciform pendant frame in Byzantine style with fleur-de-lys motifs to the obverse, hinged suspension loop, central discoid garnet cloison in frame with pearl and emerald beads. 9.02 grams, 42mm (1 3/4"). Property of a British gentleman; formerly in the private collection of Russian businessman Yuri Golubev (1942-2007), some of his collection was published in his book 'Symbols and Images'; acquired from Artemission Ancient Art, London SW5, 14 December 2005; accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, invoice, and a copy of the listing. Dr Bonewitz notes: 'The emeralds are the natural hexagonal crystals with the faces polished, and drilled longitudinally. At this date, they are likely to be Columbian.' [No Reserve]
