AMERICAN SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) FOLK ART PORTRAIT OF A MAN, pastel on paper, stylish figure wearing a blue jacket and a white ruffled shirt, no signature located. Housed in an old frame, possibly original. Circa 1810. 17 1/4" x 21 1/2" sight,22 1/2" x 26 1/4" OA.
Portrait is in good overall condition, with some discoloration. Frame has minor wear and losses. Not examined out of frame.
Provenance: Property from the Estate of Nicholas de Belleville Katzenbach, Princeton, NJ.
Catalogue Note: Descended in the Katzenbach family, the present portrait is believed to depict Nicholas De Belleville (1753-1831), who was personal physician to Napoleon's brother in New Jersey.
