Description
A pair of large Canosan figural vases, Apulia, early 3rd Century BC, both in the form of a female head flanked by fronds, each with lovely well-defined features and wearing a radiate diadem adorned with disks and drop earrings. Both heads are surmounted by a standing draped female figure serving as the vessel neck, draped in chiton and himation which are pulled tight against their bodies. They wear disk earrings and wreathed diadems and at their backs are the upper portions of the vessels handles. H: 17 3/4 in (44.4 cm) and 18 in (45.6 cm). Both vessels show remnants of white paint and are from the same workshop forming a wonderful matching pair! Both vases have had varying degrees of repair and restoration, however the vast majority of both vases is original. Please ask for details! Ex UK private collection acquired from Herakles Numismatics and Antiquities, Munich in early 2000's; previously belonging to a German private collection formed in the 1970's.
