Rare Stoneware Pig Flask with Terre Haute, IN Advertising, attributed to Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, Dated 1879, molded in the form of a reclining pig with incised face and opening in rear, the surface covered in an Albany slip glaze and incised with the inscription, "Peter N. Staff. No 913 Main St. / Choice Wines Liquors & Cigars. / 1879 Terrahaute(sic) Ind. / Use but dont / abuse the Liquid of this pork-". Featuring an unusual and charming slogan, this flask was made to advertise a Terre Haute, Indiana saloon, once referred to as the Lake Shore Saloon, owned and operated by Peter N. Staff. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a long-term Midwestern collection. A 1" flake to side of one front leg. A few chips to rear legs. L 6 3/4".
