Item Details
Description
Imperial German Infantry Line Regiment Standard. White silk field with a magnificent 6 3/4" x 7 1/2" embroidered gold and silver wire/red silk embellished crown – positioned above a gold bullion legend "PRO GLORIA ET PATRIA". Following is a relief embroidered crowned Prussian eagle, holding a sword and lightning bolts, which boldly dominates the center of the flag. Gold and silver wire used for the detailed crown, beak, sword and lightning bolts highlight the multi-color silk embroidered 9 1/2" x 15" eagle. All is emphasized by the surrounding gold and silver wire laurel wreath. Black ray tapered panels emanate from the center to the sides of each corner –which hold a 11 1/2" x 8 1/2" gilt embroidered crowned "WR" cypher within a laurel leaf wreath. Relief embroidered stylized 6" x 2" flaming grenades decorate the center of each of the large white panels. Two sided. The flap has a continuous line of tack holes – indicating the correct method of attaching to the pole. Overall, the age of the standard is evident by the "off-white" appearance, silk separations, especially towards the lower right corner and along the upper and lower inside flap. Accompanying the standard are original accessories: (1) "Fahnen Weihe" ("standard" streamers). Age-toned 1 1/2" wide silver wire ribbon with three black stripes, silver and black continuous "V's" on elongated stems, and 2 7/8" silver wire/black cord tassels. With both gilt metal dedication plaques: high relief Hohenzollern Crown/sun rays – reverse "1 JANUAR 1900"; and relief crowned "W II" cypher/sun rays – reverse "JANUAR 1900 – 1 JULI 1813". (2) "Fahnenband". 1914 – 1918 Combatants Cross on a 27 1/4" length of proper ribbon with a sewn loop end. Suspended from the pole top, to recognize service in WWI. Considering the age and WWI useage, this standard would rate in about very good condition. A rare offering.
