Description
A rare example of a chip carved small secular 17th Century chest Circa 1690. The cutting is rough, as one would expect in a secular chest at this date, and the Gothic traditions are imperfectly comprehended. Decorated on the front only with recessed carving consisting of two square panels set side by side, containing floral scroll work in the Gothic manner. In the center is a fan wheel. Measures: 16.5 x 10.25 x 9.25
Condition
The top original panel projects over the rear panel on which it is hinged. The lock is missing. The absence of a condition statement does not indicate that the lot is in perfect condition, free from damage or does not show wear consistent with age and use. Housatonic Trading Company recommends you request a condition report prior to bidding. Condition information may be requested via this platform. Please note that condition statements are given as a courtesy to buyers and an opinion of condition should not be treated as a statement of fact.
