Description
This lot consists of a framed, hand drawn mixed media on paper, hand signed "K. Haring" vertically at left. Blaring red letters exclaim a triumphant "good-bye" to chicken pox as a cartoon man waves gleefully. He is covered in small red dots. "For Ian" is hand inscribed at bottom right, with "Keith 1983" and a crosshair symbol below this dedication. Done in the modern, graffiti style of Keith Haring (American, 1958-1990). Piece measures approximately 14.5" x 18.5".
Keith Haring was a defining member of the international art scene of the 1980s. The refined artwork he is remembered for today actually emerged from spontaneous early drawings Haring did on the walls of the New York subway system, with all of the momentum and the social gaze that Pop Art is so well known for. Following his death from AIDS-related complications, Haring's bold lines, kinetic figures, and blatant activism have cemented his name forever in art history.
