Description
Entry size knob in a classic R&E design but with an interesting calligraphic center. This knob was designed for the 1871 Merchants Exchange building in St. Louis and was custon-cast by Russell & Erwin. The opposite facing "Cs" stand for the Chamber of Commerce, who actually built and owned the building. The CC also financed and built the first bridge across the Mississippi, so it looks like there are iron girder connected between the C's. Depending on how you read the calligraphy it looks like there is also and "M/X" (for Merchants Exchange at the bottom of the medallion. This is a great collector knob in very nice condition.
