Description
17th C. Rare Reverse Gilt & Ink Painting on Glass This and the next lot are from part 2 of the Dr. Albert Figdor sale in Berlin, 1930. Here, the bronze plaque reads; engraving on glass 18th century, . This rare ink drawing and leaf gold painting on the back of the glass, is of the mid to later 17th century and not engraved on the glass. The drawing superb, no doubt this fine Baroque artist was also a talented engraver, it certainly is close to the work of Stefano della Bella, who was apprenticed to a goldsmith prior to his turning to engraving and would know how to expertly handle the leaf gold. Saint Peter the Apostle was among his oeuvre. The borders are accomplished in leaf silver, the condition very fine, the frame is later. The glass size is 10" x 8".
