Description
A very early wood carved, lacquered and gilded Court figure. Possibly Yuan, but comfortably of the earliest Ming era of late 14th to early 15th century. Seated on a military type folding red lacquer 'field' chair, the court class elder has long been missing his separately carved hands, the pin remains for one. His original black and red lacquer remains, his gilding with some wear is original. At back, a crack line at the neck, part of his base and one lower back leg of the chair are gone, the 'secret' door to the 'hidden scroll' cavity on his back is also gone. It stands and displays fine. 10 5/8" high, x 4.5" wide.
