Oil on masonite. 26 x 20 1/2 in. (masonite), 31 1/2 x 26 1/2 in. (frame).Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1935, Robert Moskowitz emerged from the Minimalist moveme nt during the 1970s. His contemporaries were artists like Elizabeth Murray and Susan Rothenberg who were called "New Image Abstraction" painters. Skyscrapers and lighthouses dominate his paintings including the Empire State Building, the World Trade Center, and the Flatiron Building. Other subjects include trees, a smokestack and even "The Thinker" by Rodin. His palette is kept dark and there is little action within the work, the focus is the flat, monolithic shape.
