Description
1564 Italian Renaissance Literature Girolamo Parabosco I Diporti Feminism Venice
Girolamo Parabosco was a 16th-century Italian poet known largely for his work ‘I Diporti’. While he did wrote a number of poems, ‘I Diporti’ is a collection of narrative stories that reflect Boccaccio’s ‘Decameron’. It offers an insightful view into the characteristics of Venetian life through the lens of the storytellers – Venetian gentlemen on a retreat – of which, the majority of their stories revolve focus on a pro-woman vs. anti-woman narrative. (Quaintance, p. 59).
Note the publisher. The handwritten publishing information on the title page is likely incorrect. This book, while not published in 1552, is still a mid-16th-century masterpiece. Published in 1564 Venice by Mammello. (USTC).
