Description
Reference: n/a
Brewery: Kessler Brewery, Helena, MT
Manufacturer/Plant: Tuscarora Adv. Co.
Date of manufacture: Circa 1900
Contents/Type: 12 oz
Condition/Comments: 23-1/2”w x 17”h. This wonderful embossed turn-of-the-century tin sign commemorates the U.S. Naval gunboat Helena, namesake of Kessler’s home town. The gunboat was commissioned in 1898 and the Tuscarora Advertising Co. merged with another firm in 1901, pinpointing the production date of this sign to a narrow 2.5-year span. Condition is good, with the most noticeable blemishes being bleached areas at the top and along the right edge. The integrity of the sign is excellent, with no major kinks or creases. Paint quality is very nice also. The sign retains a nice sheen and the art of the ship itself is not affected by any flaws. Due to its size there are multiple small scratches and nicks, and there is some oxidation along the top edge where the hanging chain has exposed metal. The corners have some chipping. Very rare and desirable sign.
