Description
98 BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# C3396. Seldom seen rifle 1 of only 3,900 Commercial type Mausers taken into railway service. Fine example w/ all matching numbers w/ very crisp distinct markings & original finish on wood & metal. Bbl. 23 3/4". Receiver marked on left wall "MAUSER-WERKE A.-G. OBERNDORF AN". Has "B U G N" proofs. Receiver ring marked on top w/ Mauser banner & "1934". Turned down bolt handle. Mag. follower does not hold bolt open on last shot. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000m. Inverted V front sight. Has bayonet bar. All milled furniture including "H" type upper band. Matching walnut stock set w/ grasping grooves, sling slot & takedown hole. Buttstock is marked on left side w/ encircled "D.R. / 3396" & "Z / 9" in "E". Flat steel buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: steel muzzle cap / front sight protector w/ hinged cap marked on end w/ Mauser banner. 9 7/8" Fullered single edge blade bayonet. Bayonet marked on left ricasso "cof". Marked on right ricasso "2733n". Blade marked on top ahead of crossguard "40". Grooved bakelite grips w/ flashguard. Pommel is marked 2 "Waa 883". Non matching steel scabbard w/ leather frog. Bayonet metal retains 70% original blue w/ thinning & wear. Pommel turning notably patina. Grips have light wear & scratches. Scabbard has notably less finish turning overall gray & patina w/ wear & scratches. Leather frog has wear, scuffing & flexing. Stitching is tight. CONDITION: stock set has very nice original condition w/ light wear, dents & scratches. Metal retains 80% original blue finish w/ scattered spots of thinning & wear. Lower band has notable abrasion on right side. Near excellent shiny bore. (19-244/RW). CURIO. $1,500-2,000.
