Description
Early U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Cartridge Carbine, in the Little Big Horn Battle serial range, with serial #40922. Chambered in 45-70 CF cal., 22'' round steel barrel with steel blade front sight, adjustable sliding leaf rear sight; ''U.S. / Model / 1873'' stamped at trapdoor hinge; ''US'' on steel buttplate. Blued lockplate marked ''(spread eagle) / U.S. / Springfield / 1873''. Straight originally oil-finished walnut stock with faint inspector's cartouche at left wrist; iron sling bar and ring mounted opposite lock; single iron stacking swivel. Sliding door in butt reveals trap containing original three-piece cleaning rod. Mfg'd 1873-1877. Condition is very good+, retaining a nice even blue/brown color to barrel; trapdoor showing some case colors. Clean and straight screw slots. Stock is smooth and solid having nice color and normal dings from use. Crisp and tight action, bore is shiny with good rifling.
