J.P. Morgan Signed Letter

Bi-fold letter signed by J.P. Morgan at the bottom in bold black ink as "J.P. Morgan" on "23 Wall Street" letterhead, 5" x 8". Penned in another hand to the recto of the first page. Dated "March 29, 1902". The balance of the pages are blank with the last page addressed to "Robert Underwood Johnson". Slightly grubby, else near fine. Adhesive stain to last page along top edge.

A warm and lovely letter written to Robert Underwood Johnson (Johnson, in conjunction with famed naturalist John Muir, was one of the driving forces behind the creation of Yosemite National Park in California in 1890 and in 1913), thanking him for his note and enclosures. In part below:

" … I have received your note of 24th together .. Together with the edition of my grandfather's poems for which I am greatly obliged. I fully appreciate your kindness … "

This letter was written shortly after Morgan formed U.S. Steel, the first billion-dollar company in the world having an authorized capital of $1.4 billion, which was much larger than any other industrial firm and comparable in size to the largest railroads.
