Outstanding example of a variant high grade foot officer's sword with elaborate foliate guard, brass mounted steel scabbard, and richly etched blade. While this sword looks like a Staff & Field pattern with the steel scabbard, it is actually a foot officer's pattern. Note the two branch guard. The staff models have three distinct branches worked into the foliate casting. Also our sword does not have the letters US in the guard as do most staff examples.
