Mid-10th century AD. A hand-forged Viking iron sword with three-lobe pommel and decorated guard; the blade is wide at the upper end, gently tapering with fuller to both faces, rounded tip, indented ring to one face with silve inlay; pommel of Petersen's Type S with traces of vertical inlaid wire. Swords of the Viking Age, Woodbridge, 2002, p.106-7 for type..Amazing condition; on custom stand ; 935mm (36.81in); 1400 gr; Provenance: Property of a central London Ancient Art Gallery; previously obtained from a British private collection formed in the 1980s.
