Italian Galeazzi Marina 3 Bolt Diving Helmet – Rarest!
Italian Galeazzi Marina 3 Bolt Diving Helmet – Rarest!
Item Details
Description

The Galeazzi Company was started in the 1930s by Signore Roberto Galeazzi. His helmets were of high quality and were used by the Italian Navy during WWII and after. The company would produce three different models, Marina (the Italian Navy Standard), Grand Luz and Titano. Of those models, each had different options and configurations that could be specially ordered.

This specific helmet is a Marina model but in a Very Rare 3 bolt configuration! This is quite significant as the style differs quite a bit visually and mechanically. The 3 bolt refers to how the bonnet (top) and breastplate (bottom) are attached. This is also where a suit fits, sealing the diver inside. This bolt style of helmet was used in other countries, but Galeazzi only made a precious few due to limited orders originally.

The outer edge of the breastplate has never been drilled for studs, it is factory original. There are serial #s in four locations, the ID plate, both neck rings and on the threaded in faceplate. All four locations numbers match. All the brass hardware is present, window guards, bolts, air fitting, eyelets, and exhaust. Inside, the original air vents are present. The helmet never had communications installed on it.

The copper body of the helmet was hand-formed, resulting in a beautiful finish. The very top of the bonnet soldered together as well as a seam going down the back. This soldering and the style the pieces were put together is called castellation. This interesting and beautiful pattern is visible on the bonnet around the top and going down the back

In terms of condition, this helmet can easily be considered an excellent example. The beautiful hand-hammered copper body is a wonderful visual component that shows the fine craftsmanship put into its construction. In order to retain the attractive finish, the helmet has been sealed to prevent tarnishing of the copper and brass.

It would not be an exaggeration to state that this may be the one opportunity many collectors will ever have to own this rare 3 bolt, Marina Galeazzi. With its magnificent condition, serial #s matching – this is truly a rare opportunity. In addition to the helmet rarity, it also comes with some interesting provenance which we will send along with the helmet. That information is as follows:

The helmet was purchased a number of years ago from an individual whose family had migrated from Italy to Venezuela. Their journey was actually recorded in an Italian documentary filmed in 1983 titled Operation Wealth. The person this helmet was purchased from was a child and shown in the movie. The movie chronicles multiple families trek to Venezuela in search of diamonds & gold. This is where the helmet was used when dredging for gold in rivers. The helmet remained in the family until it was sold in the last five years. A document recording the province of the helmet as well as a link to the movie will be provided to the winning bidder. A professional 360° profile imagery of the helmet as well as a digital chain of title through TheMotherLode platform will be passed along to the winner.

All helmets sold & auctioned by NationÂ’s Attic Inc. will come with a certificate of authenticity (COA). This COA will have a serial # on it that will match the # on a tamperproof holographic decal placed on the inside of the helmet. This level of security and long term assurance of the helmets authenticity is un-matched in the industry and very important to us.

The display stand shown in the photos is not included. The option to purchase one after the auction will be provided. All helmets will be shipped in two double boxed boxes via FedEx. Worldwide shipping available. A shipping quote prior to the auction can be provided by emailing your postal code.
