Description
**Originally Listed At $450**
Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A fine hollow-molded terracotta applique fragment of an actor's mask displaying a stunned, wide-eyed countenance. The features of the mask are exaggerated as per traditional acting masks with bulbous cheeks, enormous eyes beneath furrowed brows, a slender nose with delineated nostrils, and a gaping mouth surrounded by thick lips, all beneath a wild coiffure which radiates outward from above the forehead. Traces of white pigmentation around the lips, nose, and coiffure suggest this applique was at one time painted with vivid pigmentation. Size: 3.8" W x 5" H (9.7 cm x 12.7 cm); 7.8" H (19.8 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
