Description
A-13 Monumental full portrait oil painting of Adolf Hitler. Originally displayed in the Nurnberg "Altes Rathaus Kleiner Sitzungssaal" (sitting room of the old city hall), where Hitler and high party officials waited prior to appearing for the Nurnberg Rally. Dressed in his N.S.D.A.P. uniform and holding his peaked cap, a determined looking Hitler is stepping forward on a foot path – with an idyllic background of colorful foliage and mountains. 89" x 51". Artist signed, "Hugo Lehmann" who was recognized by the N.S.D.A.P. and commissioned to paint portraits of Hitler and other ranking Party officials. Examples of these works can be found in the 1930's photo/print catalogs of August Uhl, Schwarz & Co. and Heinrich Hoffman. Lehman's death in 1941 cut short his position as one of the most prominent portrait artists of the Third-Reich. At the end of WWII, de-nazification dictated the removal of this Hitler painting from the Nurnberg City Hall. Salvaged from a rubbish heap by a collector, the portrait was rolled and stored for over 50 years. After being acquired by a North American, the painting was professionally restored and framed. Accompanying this work will be a booklet containing information on the artist, views of the "sitzungssaal" (room) – showing this painting displayed, layout of the Nurnberg City Hall, other portraits by Lehmann and views of the Hitler portrait before the restoration. A historical painting. I
