Description
AN EIGHT IMMORTALS BOWL, RONG YIN TANG ZHI MARK
China, Qianlong period, 1736-1795. The base inscribed with the four-character mark within double squares. Rong Yin Tang, the Hall in the Shade of the Banyan, was part of the administrative office of Li Ba, scholar and Magistrate of Fu Ning during the Qianlong period.

Provenance: From the collection of Major General Sir Basil A. Hill KBE (1880-1960), who had a distinguished military career, seeing action during the siege of Qingdao in 1914. Besides being an avid art collector, Sir Basil was a passionate rugby player, having served for England in nine International matches.
Condition: Overall fine condition with some old wear and traces of use, six minute chips to lip, each from 1-4mm in size. Minuscule firing flaws here and there. Lasting sound of 3-4 seconds. No hairlines or cracks!

Good unctuous glaze! The deep rounded sides rising from a short straight foot to an everted rim, painted around the exterior in underglaze-blue on white ground with the Eight Immortals, each holding their respective attribute and standing amidst scrolling clouds and mist, the interior with a medallion enclosing the Three Star Gods conversing beneath a pine tree.

Auction result comparison: Compare with a nearly identical bowl bearing the Qianlong mark at Sotheby's London, November 11th, 2015, in Important Chinese Art, lot 47.

中國,乾隆時期 1736-1795。碗底雙圈方印四字款。 榕蔭堂是乾隆時期福州知府李拔的堂款。

來源:大將軍 Sir Basil A. Hill KBE (1880-1960)私人收藏,1914年曾在青島。之後曾爲藝術收藏家,還是橄欖球愛好者。
品相:總體品相良好,一些使用痕跡和磨損,唇沿処有裂縫,每道1-4毫米長。局部些微燒製瑕疵。敲擊后,聲音可持續3-4秒鐘。無髮絲綫或裂片。
