Description
Dimensions: 19-1/4" H x 7-3/4" Diam.

A Superb, Chinese 16th C. Qing Dynasty Kangxi Reign Period, blue and white figures. A cylindrically tall shaped vase, tubular body, long straight neck forming into a slightly flared rim, raised on flat rim with a concave footed base. The exterior adorned with eight immortals ride a myth beast in various pursuit on the sky with scrolling ruyi, vapors and cumulus clouds. In Chinese mythology the Eight Immortals are believed to know the secrets of nature. They represent separately male, female, the old, the young, the rich, the noble, the poor, and the humble Chinese. Each Immortal's power can be transferred to a tool of power, kind of a talisman associated with a certain meaning, that can give life or destroy evil. Together, these eight tools are called Hidden Eight Immortals or Covert Eight Immortals. The Eight were called the Roaming Immortals in Taoist legends. Not only are they revered by Taoists, but by all Chinese society. They are the base for various literature, folk tales and are pictured in art. Symbols are representing the characteristic attributes of each Immortal and they were depicted on a wide variety of porcelain, bronze, ivory, and embroidered object . Double fine blue ring lines decorated on foot base rim, repeating thick dot with repeating key fret festooned on the neck and upper mouth rim. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the underglaze grayish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, the carving, and the shape. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, and distinct. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.

Mark on under base, a six underglaze blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double fine rings, Kangxi Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
