Caucasia, Hegira date on one side of blade reads 1281, a "Yataghan" or sword. Ornate sword has large ivory grip (probably mastodon) that flares into a double eared pommel. Hilt with orange coral and decorative metal gilt adornment. The hilt attaches to the blade without a guard. Both sides of the blade are engraved. One side with tendrils, the other side with very lengthily Arabic inscription; almost the length of the entire blade giving the date and probably the makers name and perhaps for whom it was made. . Wood sheath with brass cover at top and bottom. Top brass band in need of repair. L: 32".
