Description
This lot consists of a colored pencil illustration on paper, done in the romantic style of Andre Minaux (French, 1923-1986). This coolly surreal image depicts a woman seated alone in the foreground, her eyes closed. An impossibly huge moon illuminates the scene beyond: a circle of men and women dance without a care at the edge of a distant grassy cliff. The word "Minaux" is inscribed at lower left corner in what appears to be watercolor. This surreal and expressive piece would be a fine addition to any collection. Unframed measurements approximately 17.25" x 13.75".
Andre Minaux (French, 1923-1986) was best known for his Social Realist paintings. Minaux was also a sculptor, illustrator, and draftsman known for his interior figurative compositions. In 1960, Minaux exhibited a painting that measured over 20 meters in length at the Maison de la Pensée Française in Paris. This painting marked the peak of Minaux's style, as well as the beginning of Minaux's exploration into abstraction. Andre Minaux died in Touquin, France, on October 4, 1986.
