Description
Meissen Porcelain Triumph of Venus on Stand, Germany, 19th century, polychrome enameled and gilded, the central partially nude figure surrounded by cherubs and attended by mermaids and a merman, ht. 16 1/2; set on a freeform base molded with sea monsters, cherubs, turtle, shells, and a merman blowing a horn, lg. 22; overall ht. 19 3/4 in.
Condition
Condition: One cerub with a wing missing; one cherub with shell broken in hand; one cherub with coral broken in hand; Venus's staff broken, repaired and broken again; several shells broken or chipped; both horns of two serpents chipped off, and one horn of another chipped off; one cherub missing forearm and hand; one cherub missing entire arm, from shoulder; one cherub with one wing missing and the other repaired; Venus's foot with old break and repair; wine colored enamel heavily crackled and misfired; waves coming from a serpents mouth restored; other scattered small chips. Break and old repair to scroll and shell at front of sled.
