Description
1896 Journal of Research Voyage of HMS Beagle, Charles Darwin
Journal of Researches into the Natural History and Geology of the Countries Visited During the Voyage of HMS Beagle Round the World Under the Command of Captain Fitz Roy by Charles Darwin.
It is a bad title, she was only a floating home for Darwin, on which, despite good companionship, he was cramped and miserably sea-sick, whilst the book is almost entirely about his expeditions on land.
The political and economic intentions of the voyage, on which Darwin was only a supernumerary, have been overshadowed by the success of the Journal.
Chapters on St Jago, Cape De Verd Islands, Rio De Janeiro, Buenos Ayres to Santa Fe, Central Chili, Galapagos Archipelago, Tahiti, and New Zealand, Australia, etc.
