Description
This is a classic commercial diving helmet made by the Morse Diving Equipment Company in Boston, MA. This helmet was made shortly after World War II during great construction in the United States. This is a 3 light (window) 12 bolt (wingnuts) model with the larger front faceplate and horizontal side windows. Morse advertised this model in their catalogs as the Three-Light Sectional-Screw Helmet and as the most widely used helmet on the market. We have included an image from the 1937 Morse catalog showing this model.
The helmet itself is in excellent original condition. As shown in the photos above, the original factory tinning on the copper body is predominantly still present. In the last 70+ years, a striking patina has developed on the tinning, giving the helmet a rich dark grey look and showing evidence of hard work. While used, this helmet was taken care of and not abused at all.
This helmet is full serial numbers matching in all six locations (both neck rings and four brails)! The helmet is complete with all four brails, 12 wing nuts, internal air vents, communications, fittings, etc., all intact. There is even an original marked Morse Diving Equipment non-return valve present on the air fitting. There is a length of communications wire on the inside. The brass window guards are present, as well as the glass. The spring-loaded safety lock is present and works correctly. Overall this is a great helmet in incredibly well preserved complete original condition!
All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity. The display stand shown in the photos is not included. The option to purchase one after the auction will be provided.
All items will be shipped with a signature required upon delivery and full insurance either via FedEx or the USPS. Worldwide shipping available. A shipping quote prior to the auction can be provided by emailing your postal code.
