The lidded vase sits on carved gilt openwork base 1.5"H x 4.25"W. Tagged on the bottom of the vase 'Mr. Garland'. James A. Garland was a prominent New Yorker, the Vice-President of the First National Bank of New York and an organiser and builder of the Northern Pacific Railroad. Garland collection of Chinese porcelain was one of the largest and most comprehensive in the United States. It consisted of over a thousand Kangxi (1662-1722) period blue and white and coloured porcelains.
