Description
A Pair of Federal Brass Andirons, Probably Philadelphia or New York, Circa 1795. Urn form finials above swag engraved tapered columns, elaborately engraved square plinths, each with an urn and willow tree, raised on spurred cabriole legs, terminating in ball-and-claw feet. Each andiron is peened over to the underside
Dimensions: Height 26 3/4in; width 11 1/2in; depth 21in.
Provenance: Property from the Collection of C. Thomas Attix Jr., East Windsor, New Jersey.
Condition
Each andiron is sturdy. General marks, wear, rubbing and darkening throughout. Cast seams visible throughout. The iron billet bars with heavy wear and pitting overall, otherwise good condition.
