Description
**First Time At Auction**
East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A charming mold-made pottery figure of stylized form, with a flowing body positioned like a dancer, embellished in pigments of red, white, and black. Dressed in a lengthy, flared robe that acts to arrest and balance her, she holds her right arm to her chest. A flattened area is shown when her left arm would be, suggesting she was originally part of a group and meant to lean against another figure. Her sweet visage is angled slightly to her right and presents slender eyes beneath an arched brow, a wide nose, thin lips, and a dimpled shin, all capped by long, black hair that cascades down her back. Red strokes of paint delineate her robe from her body, showing a V-neck at her chest, as well as detail to the dress, such as adding stripes to her sleeve and outlining the folds of fabric at the back of her base. Size: 3" L x 2" W x 8.75" H (7.6 cm x 5.1 cm x 22.2 cm)
Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, acquired 1980s from an old English collection
