Item Details
Description
North America, United States, Pleistocene (Ice Age), ca. 1.8 Million to 11,000 years old. A fossilized partial mandible containing six molars from a prehistoric member of the deer family. The bone is a dark brown and black mottled hue. The teeth are anchored into the top and display gorgeous gray-blue coloration of the enamel. This deer may have been of the Odocoileus virginianus genus, which are the same species of white-tailed deer that roam across North American today. This fossil is a fascinating example of the development of modern-day species! Size: 5.75" L x 1.5" W (14.6 cm x 3.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan USA acquired before 2000
