Description
A US M1840 cavalry saber with scabbard known as the "Wristbreaker" for its heavy blade. Flat spine marked "R&C" near cross guard indicating production by Rohrig & Company of Solingen, Germany. These swords would be imported for the Mexican-American War as demand outweighed domestic supply and production. 35.5" bright blade in overall good condition with some oxidation near ricasso and in fuller. Tip is slightly blunted and blade has some minor nicks. Brass basket has dull color with some wear. Wire bound grips are in overall fair condition with some small pieces of leather missing. Scabbard has patina throughout with some minor surface rust on throat. A good example of a US M1840 cavalry saber. See photos.
