Description
ENGLISH ELABORATELY CARVED OAK TALL-CASE CLOCK, eight-day brass works, brass and steel dial with seconds and date, chapter ring engraved "Jno. Singleton, Wigton", the massive hood and case featuring all-over carving including images of Father Time and "William and Mary", a coat of arms, two figures at a well, a sunburst, "Time and Tide / Waits for No Man", etc. Two weights and pendulum present. Old surface with warm color. Interior of door with typed note indicating the clock was made for Sir John Lowther, 1st Viscount of Lonsdale, and his wife Catherine, John was an advisor to Queen Mary when William was away. 18th/19th century. 114" HOA, 22" W, 13 3/4" D.
