Description
Pre-Columbian, southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel of cylindrical form with a slightly convex base, thick walls, and a tapered rim that surrounds the basin opening. Highly burnished and enveloped in brown and russet slip, the vessel's walls feature a fluted presentation that both helps its owner to better grasp the lustrous walls as well as present an attractive aesthetic beauty. Size: 5.4" W x 4.9" H (13.7 cm x 12.4 cm)
Provenance: ex-estate of Giraud V. Foster, Baltimore, Maryland, USA, before 2001

Condition
Minor abrasions and nicks to rim, flutes, base, and basin surfaces, with light fading to brown and russet pigments, and some smooth calcifications within basin, otherwise intact and very good. Great preservation to flutes and pigment throughout.
