Description
Northern Europe, likely Netherlands or Germany, Renaissance Period, ca. 16th century CE. A fine silver ring presenting a ribbon-form band that thickens to an ovoid bezel inscribed "IHS" - a Christogram symbolizing the first 3 Greek letters in the name Jesus and also meaning "Jesus Hominum Salvator" in Latin or "Jesus Our Savior" in English. Swirling flourishes further embellish the band and form a lovely border surrounding the protruding bezel. Size: 1.1" Diameter (2.8 cm); ring size: 8.75; silver quality: 93.7%; weight: 11.5 grams
