Description
Original 1861 pass for a visitor to enter Camp Constituion, where the famous 2nd New Hampshire Infantry was first formed in 1861. Camp Constitution was situated in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on the site of historic Fort Constitution. George Stark, a Nasuha native and commander at Portsmouth, issued these passes to allow visitors into the camp. Dated May 1861, this is a very rare piece of Civil War ephemera and a strong addition to any early New Hampshire collection. Visitors can tour the site today, which is known as Fort Stark & Fort Constitution State Park. Pass is in very good condition with wear commensurate with age. Strong colors, bold printing, one small bend to top left corner.
