April 1861 "Show Your Colors" Patriotic Union Broadside
April 27, 1861-Dated Civil War Period, Manuscript Broadsheet, titled "Show Your Colors," measuring 6.25" x 8", Choice Very Fine.
Original Civil War Manuscript Union Patriotic Broadside was probably used as a Broadside in Aurora, NY. At lower right reads: "Drawn up by my father Dr E. Leffingwell". Particularly important in that it is the Handwritten original. Authored by a Dr. E. Leffingwell, it reads in full:
"Show your Colors --- 'Eternal vigilance is the price of Liberty' Citizens of Aurora and Vicinity let us Show now that we fully appreciate this blessing; that we love our Country and her institutions and are ready to sustain and defend them. Traitors have Conspired their ruin and the darkest hour of our Nations existance is now upon us. Let us one and all irrespective of party, sect or creed assemble at the Aurora House on Monday Eve April 29th 1861 - organize a Military Company; acquaint ourselves with the tactics and discipline of Modern Warfare and be prepared to protect our own homes and ready to go where duty may call".
Bottom center reads: "Aurora - April 27th 1861".
