Description
1900 1st Leo Tolstoy Resurrection Economic Philosophy RUSSIA Social Classes
“Every man and every living creature has a sacred right to the gladness of springtime…”
– Leo Tolstoy, Resurrection
Leo Tolstoy was one of the most prolific Russian authors of the 19th-century, most known for his masterpieces War and Peace and Anna Karenina. In 1899, Tolstoy published his final novel, Resurrection. It was written to bring light to life in Russia at the end of the 19th-century through the lens of various levels of societal classes. Interestingly, the Orthodox Church in Russia were so displeased with the work, that Tolstoy was excommunicated. The philosophical ideals that permeate throughout this work include studies in economic philosophies and the influence of taxation on social classes.
This 1900 first American edition was published in New York by Dodd and Mead.
