Abraham Lincoln On Executive Mansion Stationery Replies to An Autograph Request! Fantastic Example of Lincoln's Signature Gorgeously Displayed with an 1864 Ohio Union Presidential Ticket!
LS, July 26, 1862, Washington D.C. on Executive Mansion stationery responding to an autograph request from "Z. Morse" of Louisville, KY. The letter is boldly signed by President Lincoln as "A. Lincoln." The letter, sight size 4.75" x 7.625," is matted along with two pieces: a fine example of an 1864 Ohio Union Presidential ticket from Vinton County which reads "For President Abraham Lincoln of Illinois, For Vice President Andrew Johnson of Tennessee" on the right; and a high-quality photo reproduction of a Lincoln portrait after the original August 1863 photograph by Alexander Gardner at center. Expected folds from mailing on the LS and some toning to the ticket, else fine. Matted to a completed size of 23.25" x 13" x .75."
The body of the letter is written in an unknown hand and reads:
"Dear Sir,
Herewith I send you my autograph which you desire."
Yours truly,
A. Lincoln"
Abraham Lincoln letters and signatures on Executive Mansion stationery have become highly coveted and rarely appear on market nowadays. A fine example, displayed clearly with such a bold signature would become the centerpiece of any Lincoln collection.
