Description
**Originally Listed At $500**

Ancient Near East / Central Asia, Bactrian or Mesopotamia, ca. 2000 to 1000 BCE. An intriguing carved limestone effigy figure of an abstract bull. The animal stands on thick, knob legs, and a characteristic hump between the shoulders and incised male genitalia is on the underside suggests this is a zebu bull. The Zebu is the domesticated form of the Asian aurochs, an ancient bovine that was first bred approximately around 7000 and 6000 BCE. The humped bull was a recurring theme on the decorative and ritual arts from Central Asian cultures, as they were revered for their strength and virility.
