Description
M1917 'Doughboy' helmet, the standard issue for American soldiers during World War I, with green textured paint. The helmet is complete with liner and chinstrap, though the chinstrap has broken in half. The rim of the interior is stamped ‘YJ 145’, and further marked ‘MGS 106’ near the liner. The front bears the insignia of the U.S. 29th Infantry Division, a blue and grey Korean monad. This division, also known as the ‘Blue and Grey’ were deployed in June of 1918 to join the American Expeditionary Forces. They arrived in Brest, France and eventually participated in the Meuse-Argonne offensive where they saw 21 days of combat. During that time they advanced seven kilometers, captured 2,148 prisoners, and knocked out over 250 machine guns or artillery pieces.
