Description
This spectacular temple textile of a writhing dragon with a sword represents vigor, power, and wisdom and dates to the late Meiji Period, c. 1890-1900. The phoenix represents the Japanese empress who descended from heaven. The dragon was skillfully created in a raised relief with gold wrapped threads. 60 x 50 inches. Minor areas of loose thread.
