Description
First generation SAA manufactured in 1940 and later upgraded with exhibition engraving and grips. Patent dates, Colt Pony and "VP" proofs are still present on the left side of the frame and trigger guard, respectively. Single line company address on the top of the barrel. The caliber and model markings typically found on the left side of the barrel have been replaced with a gold inlay cattle scene. Gold inlay bulls fighting on the right side of the barrel. The loading gate has a gold inlay horse. Cattle scenes on both sides of the frame. Cylinder has gold inlay between each flute (a rope, gun belt, Stetson/spurs, boots, saddle and brands). Gold inlay bull on the recoil plate. 5-1/2" barrel with blade front sight and u-notch frame rear. Six shot fluted cylinder. Blued finish under master floral scroll engraving. Gold inlay bands throughout as well. Heavily embellished brass grips with a cowboy on the right side and Indian on the left. An Indian chief appears on the bottom. Formerly of the Robert M. Lee collection and a must have for any serious Colt collection. CONDITION: Metal retains 98% of its blued and gold inlay finish. Grips have very light wear with no real signs of polishing or cleaning. Bore is clean overall with very good rifling. Tight hammer and cylinder. Crisp mechanics. CALIBER: .38 Special.
