Rectangulaire sur quatre pieds en forme de dragon, le couvercle bombé et poignées latérales en double enroulement, les grands côtés gravés de la personnification des quatre saisons dans des cartouches ovales, le printemps et l'été sur le devant, et l'automne et l'hiver sur le dos, sur les petits côtés, personnification de l'Espérance et de l'Amour, sur le couvercle un couple se tenant par la main avec au-dessus une colombe symbolisant le Saint-Esprit, tous les cartouches encadrés par des rinceaux de feuillage, le dessous gravé d'armoirie, avec clé d'origine, poinçons à l'intérieur et sur le dessous, avec striche

Les armoiries sont probablement celles de Suffridus Saeckma et de son épouse Titia Oosterbaan, fille de Thomas Gerritz , bourgmestre de Staveren, qu'il épouse en 1633.

A DUTCH SILVER MARRIAGE CASKET OR KNOTTEKISTJE, MARK OF JARIG GERRITS VAN DER LELY, LEEUWARDEN, 1633
Rectangular on four cast dragon feet with domed cover and side double scroll handles, the front and back panels delicately engraved with personification of the four seasons in oval cartouches: spring and summer on the front, and autumn and winter on the back, on the lateral sides personification of Hope and Love, on the cover a couple holding hands with above a dove symbolising the Holy Spirit, the cartouches framed by scrolling foliage, the underside engraved with a coat-of-arms figuring a half eagle on the right and a hausmark with bird of prey above on the left, with original key, marked inside and to underside, with striche
The coat-of-arms is probably that of Suffridus Saeckma and his wife Titia Oosterbaan, daughter of Thomas Gerritz, burgomaster of Staveren, whom he married in 1633.
Suffridus Saeckma was the son of Johannes Saeckma (Saakma or Sacama), Doctor of Law, Secretary to the College of Admiralty in Friesland and Attorney General. In this capacity, he drew up the country's first ordinance in 1602 with Hillema and Idsaerda. Shortly afterwards, he became a court councillor and played a political role in the States General. In 1628, he became curator of the Friesche Hogeschool and a respected antiquarian.His son Suffridus followed in his father's footsteps and studied at Franeker, where he became a Doctor of Law. He lived in Akkerwoude and became a court lawyer on 26 December 1630, after which he was appointed Grietman of Dantumadeel. He was also appointed to the Admiralty of Dokkum. From 1632 to 1653, he was a member of the States of Friesland and, in this capacity, signed the patent for the construction of a road between Dokkum and Dantumawoude. In the same year, as plenipotentiary for the inhabitants of Rinsumageest, he was granted a patent for the construction of a road from this village to Birdaard and Oudkerk for the benefit of their church. He died on 8 December 1655 without issue.

Les armoiries gravées sur ce coffret de mariage sont attribuées à Suffridus Saeckma et son épouse Titia Oosterbaan.
Suffridus Saeckma était le fils de Johannes Saeckma (Saakma ou Sacama) docteur en droit, secrétaire du Collège de l'Amirauté en Frise et procureur général. En cette capacité, il rédigea la première ordonnance du pays en 1602 avec Hillema et Idsaerda. Peu après, il devient conseiller à la Cour et joue un rôle politique dans les États généraux. En 1628, il devient conservateur de la Friesche Hogeschool tout en étant un antiquaire respecté.
Son fils Suffridus suit les traces de son père et étudie à Franeker, où il devient docteur en droit. Il vécut à Akkerwoude et devient avocat à la Cour le 26 décembre 1630, après quoi il fut nommé Grietman de Dantumadeel. Il fut également nommé à l'amirauté de Dokkum. De 1632 à 1653, il est membre des États de Frise et, à ce titre, signe le brevet de construction d'une route entre Dokkum et Dantumawoude. En tant que plénipotentiaire des habitants de Rinsumageest, il reçut la même année, au profit de leur église, un brevet pour la construction d'une route allant de ce village à Birdaard et Oudkerk. Il mourut le 8 décembre 1655 sans descendance.
