Helen Fuller Orton (American, 1872–1955) born on her family s farm, between Sanborn and Pekin, N.Y., began writing career at the age of 48 with first collection of children stories, Prince and Rover of Cloverfield Farm, published in 1921, followed by 4 more collections based on her childhood on the farm. Her interest in historical research led Orton to produce own informal history of New York in children stories. She focused on the lives of people like her ancestors, engaging readers in the historical settings with mysteries to solve. Her other works include: The Treasure in the Little Trunk (1932), Mystery at the Little Red Schoolhouse (1941), The Secret of the Rosewood Box (1937), Mystery of the Secret Drawer (1945), and Mystery in the Old Cave (1950).
